What Is Soy Wax?
Soy wax is exactly what it sounds like — wax derived from soybean oil. It's a natural, plant-based wax that's been the wax of choice for independent and artisan candle makers for years. Unlike paraffin wax, which is a petroleum by-product (yes, literally a fossil fuel derivative), soy wax is renewable, biodegradable, and about as far from crude oil as you can get.
Soy Wax vs Paraffin: The Honest Breakdown
Burn quality. Soy wax burns slower and cooler than paraffin, which means your candle lasts longer. We're talking up to 50% more burn time in many cases. For the person who genuinely loves candles and burns them regularly, that adds up to real value over time. Paraffin burns hot and fast — which is fine if you're not bothered about longevity, but most people are.
Soot and smoke. Paraffin candles produce a noticeable amount of soot when burned. You'll see it on the glass, sometimes on your walls. What About Beeswax and Coconut Wax?
Both are excellent natural alternatives to paraffin. Beeswax burns beautifully and has a natural, subtle honey scent — but it's not vegan, which rules it out for a lot of people. Coconut wax is fantastic (ultra-clean burn, great scent throw) but sits at the premium end of the market and is harder to source at scale.

- Scented with essential oils or phthalate-free fragrance oils, not unspecified "fragrance"
- A cotton or wood wick — no metal core
- Made by a brand that's transparent about their ingredients
